BACKBENDING a.k.a FRONT BODY OPENING WORKSHOP with Dee

  • Join Dee in this interactive workshop, helping you to feel safe and joyful on your backbending journey. The backbending practice can be freeing, exciting and liberating but also quite scary and challenging.

We will work on drills to build strength and create space in the thoracic spine, chest and shoulders and learn how to use our lower body to support this opening. These drills will be easy to implement into your own weekly practice and you will be shown how to move towards progression and use props to support the journey.

We will work on foundational postures such as Urdhva Mukha Svanasana (Upward Dog) & Shalabhasana (Locust), and move into bigger front body openers such as Ustrasana (Camel), Urdhva Dhanurasana (Wheel) and Eka Pada Rajakapotasana (King Pigeon).

“The most useful and informative days that I have spend in years!” Jo W, Yoga Teacher

In this two-day immersion we will explore in detail the anatomy and physiology of our incredible human body applied to practising and teaching yoga. Each topic that we delve into will be related directly back to the asana practice. The sessions will be interactive and experiential and will vary between discussion, lecture, small group work, personal reflection
and asana exploration. There will be a strong focus on using knowledge of anatomy to make asana practices as inclusive as possible. A detailed manual will be included.
The immersion is ideal for yoga practitioners with an established practice, who want to learn more about the human body, go deeper in their own yoga practice and develop a
teaching style that is up to date, empowering and inclusive. We will explore anatomy to a depth that is appropriate for teaching yoga.
By the end of the weekend, you will feel inspired and empowered to teach yoga to the best of your ability. You will have the confidence to breakdown any yoga asana with a clear
understanding of the key actions and movements and know how to work with your own unique anatomy and that of your student.
An Introduction to Intelligent Movement Principals:
 An introduction to muscle looking at its structure and function and how we can apply the knowledge of stretch reflexes to deepen our practice
 The structure and function of bone and joints looking at both the importance and limitation of alignment and what limits our movement
 Whether yoga alone can reverse bone loss
 How a knowledge of fascia can impact our movement on and off the mat
 The Nocebo Effect and choosing empowering language
     What causes muscle tightness
     Flexibility vs mobility
 Anatomical language and how this can help us to remember the names of some of our muscles
A Detailed Exploration of the Lower Limbs:
 An exploration of our feet and ankles looking at their structure and function and how we can apply this knowledge on and off the mat
 Why our knee joints may be vulnerable to injury and how to support them
 A detailed look at the hip joints focusing on what makes each of us so unique
     Piriformis Syndrome
A Detailed Exploration of the Upper Limbs:

 The importance of shoulder joint and girdle mobility and stability in our yoga practice

 An evidence-based approach to Shoulder Impingement

 Hyperextension of the elbow joint

 Why wrist pain is so common in yoga

A Detailed Exploration of the Spine:

 An exploration of our pelvis and sacroiliac joints and how to keep this area supported during our asana practice

 An evidence-based approach to back pain and prolapsed discs

 The anatomy of our core musculature

     Increasing thoracic spine mobility

 Supporting our cervical spine during inversions

 An evidence-based approach to releasing neck tension

This immersion counts towards CPD requirements for Yoga Alliance members (12 contact hours).

CACAO CEREMONY & DEEP REST w/ Sarah Teodorescu

  • Cacao Ceremony & Deep rest is a journey on the path of contemplation. My favorite states to exist in are made of liminal spaces where all things are possible through presence. In order to reach them, the body must be at ease, the mind needs to feel limitless, and the heart must remember the rhythm of its own expansive nature. The path of contemplation exists between the path of meditation (right brain) and the path of concentration (left brain). It is the middle way of the corpus callosum that unites duality. To walk the path of contemplation is to release into relaxation, to remain open hearted, and to trust the wonder and joy of the beginner’s mind.

Join me on a journey of contemplation that will individually, and collectively nourish the heart. Comfort will be the key to allowing you to activate your parasympathetic nervous system, and the body's miraculous ability to rest and heal. Wear comfortable clothes, bring pillows, your favorite notebook and pen, water bottle, blankets and anything else that feels wonderfully supportive to you. Mats, bolsters, and blankets will already be laid out for your arrival.

I have been journeying with this beautiful, Peruvian cacao for over 5 years now. It is organic, not roasted, very grounding, and a gentle but powerful heart opener. The cacao will contain organic plant milk (oat, or almond), organic coconut oil, Himalayan sea salt, organic vanilla, and organic honey.

If you are currently on antidepressants, cacao is not recommended. Please, consult with your healthcare provider. If you would prefer to have ceremonial hawthorn tea instead, please, let me know. It is a native to Scotland, is in the rose family, and it is a gorgeous and gentle heart opener.

I will be taking us on a journey with the shamanic drum, and it will shift energy within the body. Please hydrate after class and be super kind and gentle with yourself. As always, if there are questions that come up during our experience together, I will do my utmost to answer them.
